Why do we need a daily skin care regimen?

Proper daily skin care is vital for overall health and well-being. Skin is our body's largest organ, it protects our internal structures from infections, body temperature regulation, excretion through perspiration, protection from ultraviolet sunrays, and production of vitamin D. Keeping our skin healthy helps keep this barrier strong.
Our skin consists of three layers, the epidermis, the dermis and the subcutaneous layer. Each layer has its own specific structure and functions. The epidermis is seen on the surface of our skin. It is mainly made up of cells called keratinocytes, which are constantly renewing itself. Melanocytes and Langerhans cells are other crucial cells found in the epidermis which have special functions.

As we age, our skin will also become more mature and gradually changes. In our late 20s, our skin cell turnover starts to decline, resulting in a dull and uneven appearance with rough texture, increased skin pigmentation and uneven skin tone. Production of collagen and elastin also declines, resulting in the a decrease in firmness and elasticity, a longer wound healing process. Epidermis becomes dryer and thinner, which makes lines and wrinkles more prominent.

As dermatologist do completely understand what causes our skin to deteriorate, and understand what ingredients and treatments can influence our skin, it is recommended to establish your home skin care regimen after consultation in order to keep your skin youthful and healthy.
